Dial 02-436-1785, and download DEVIL*.*, and all will be revealed.
I have just been trying the mentioned compiler (PACIFIC.EXE) and
the brilliant news is that it has a large memory model, the first
such freely-available compiler that I know of to support that (in
normal MSDOS). I have thus been recompiling MSGED using it, and
changing MSGED where I thought it was warranted. I have documented
the problems I have found so far. You will see that there are two
compiler problems, and the rest are library problems. I have been
changing the library header files, snatching stuff from PDPCLIB.
I think I should hurry up and get PDPCLIB working on MSDOS!

Problems with Pacific C version 7.45
  missing errno.h
  strtol missing from stdlib.h
  cannot initialize automatic arrays
requires calls by function pointer to have * in front
  mktime is missing from time.h
  SEEK_* macros missing from stdio.h
  FILENAME_MAX missing from stdio.h
