I'd be curious if MS handed him in or if the local cops decided they wanted
to get him for something as as a state official they couldn't get him
through a tax inspection.
The IP rules (esp wrt criminalizing vs civil law) are incredibly useful for
gov agencies looking to control a populace as most of us have in some way
of other "violated IP laws" & the fact that we're not all in
prison is down to the "discretion" of the law enforcers.
As noted in this case this discretionary power is a dangerous thing in part
because of it's discretionary nature.
If your gov wished to place pressure on anyone inc you, the first thing
have a look for copied videos, DVD, MP3 etc.etc. et voila a prison term.
