Oh BTW wrt install etc the thing I would most like to see is the whole init
script thing clearing up i.e. a common set of scripts, where stuff is put
etc for everything from the system itself (e.g. the network script) to
services (e.g. Apache etc).

That would make a much larger difference as then (A) those script could be
honed (B) Admin skills could be transferable from debain to mandriva to
Suse, to RH to Ubuntu etc.etc & (c) it would allow for more common
packages.


Oh & I'd like all Java stuff to go in /opt/java coz then it can be
copied over in one go
