To that extent they share the same function,  yeah,  but my understanding
of it is that binkd is for exchanging those archives over an internet
connection, while binkley is to answer the phone,  and hand off to the bbs
if necessary (and do other stuff like deal with faxes,  if so configured).

There was an article in fidonews a while back about how bbs'ing could be
revived somewhat if sysops were to provide for a ppp connection as well as
the usual kind.  I find that to be an interesting idea,  but have never
pursued it.

There's something I'd *really* like to get some info on,  as the modem I'm
using on the other box has those capabilities,  though I haven't had much
luck with chasing down any particulars on that.  Best I've been able to do
is to find out that it had some particular TI DSP in it,  if I'm
remembering right.
