Larry Niven has acollection of short stories in which he imagines what
might happen if practical teleportation is invented.  He imagines things
like Old fashioned telephone booths springing up.  You go it, shut the
door, and dial a phone like dial,  but instead of  a phone call, there's a
flick, and you in the corresponding phone booth  or, as he calls them Flick
booths.

I have often wished sincerely for this technology so I could join Garry
Stahl's games and so I could round up old Friends from los Angeles for my
current games.
