subject: Grandma Runs Linux... Has it Been a Year Already?

From: "Joe Barr"

http://www.linuxbeginner.org/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=97

In the last year, her experience has been better than I'd hoped - by far.
Her machine is stable, her programs work, her web browsing is safe, and she
no longer has to be concerned about catching or spreading viruses through
her email. The machine is faster than she's used to, since she doesn't have
to have an anti-virus running all the time bogging the thing down, so she
loves that. I can do updates and replace those "missing" desktop
icons and other admin tasks from my place via ssh with no trouble, and most
of the time she doesn't even realize that things have been done. Since
installing Linux, I've had to go to her place just once for a computer
related problem, a failed mouse, and that was simple enough to fix. Now I
just stop by from time to time for a home cooked meal :-)
