whatever it is:

emerge -v layman
layman -a fidonet
emerge nltools

now you have a cvs copy of husky-1.4 laying in /usr/portage/distfiles/cvs-src

whats next is upto you

i will fix this global vs local include gcc precompiler problems

smapi builds fine, but fidoconf fails since smapi is not yet installed
global include dirs, this error is seen if trying

emerge =husky-1.4

when this ebuild is not failing then husky is stable, include wise
