I never had a bird come down with any diseases.  Three parakeets lived 14
years which is quite a long time for a parakeet.  IMHO it's much like
worrying about nitrates in bacon or cholesterol from eggs - Suddenly the
Atkins diet is extolling eating a pound of bacon and all the eggs you want.
Just wait a day and the news will change.

Meanwhile, feed your birds what they will eat.  Encourage greens and fruit
but don't get overly worried about seed.
