I'm sorry you found my message to be so insulting, John. I was
genuinely curious about many of the questions I posed. I didn't mean to
insinuate the "worst," but rather to provide them as examples of some of the
thinking that goes on with some upgrades. We all fall victim to the urge to
upgrade sooner or later. I was curious at the methods you used in what
seemed to me a rather sudden decision to upgrade almost every piece of
electronics in your system at the same time. For example, in the case of the
Carver Amp, I was curious what made you think you suddenly needed to upgrade?
Many possibilities exist. I simply listed a few of the possibilities and
ended each one with a question (they weren't statements, but questions and
weren't meant to be sarcastic. For example, power problems, borrowing an amp
and upon comparing it in your system, finding it better sounding, going
strictly upon recommendations from a friend, listening to a friend's system
that uses the same speakers and finding their's superior sounding, etc. etc.
I don't know what reasons you had, and that's what I asked.
I do admit that I was a bit snotty about the bi-wiring thing (I guess
I'm spending too much time on RAHE reading scientific arguments against
various tweak methods), but I readily admitted that cables CAN affect the
sound, but usually this is do to measurable reasons. I also mentioned I
believed the cables in question DO measure differently. Once again, I wasn't
questioning what you were saying, I just wanted more clarification since such
items are controversial. Is it so insulting to ask WHY you think a
particular product makes a difference?
As I told you privately, after I had sent the message, I realized it
probably did come across very bad, but it was too late to cancel the message
and rewrite it. (usually I wait an hour or two before I upload my QWK
packets so I can go back over my messages with a level head, but
unfortunately this was one of the ones that needed rewriting but go rushed
out) Also unfortunately, my message to you got there after the Fido one (I
was surprised it got there in less than two days).

Once again, I'm sorry if I insulted you. I've just been a bit
surprised over the past two months or so in your sudden and unexpected
interest in such things as tube amps, jitter busters, high end cables,
outboard DACs (that need the busters in the first place due to the industry's
poor S/PDIF interface), the comment about "brassy" solid state sound (I've
yet to encounter anything like this, but it's something I've read about in
Stereophile), the sudden change in opinion about bi-wiring (something I can't
recommend except in the special cases I mentioned to another poster) and the
sudden "sale" of all your previous electronics (this really surprised me) all
at once. All these combined together is what lead me to respond and question
each as to what your thinking was. Again, I'm sorry that you were insulted.
I'm out of time.
