ah, if it was virtualhosted i know why :)

you are right about if i add www to the url i got the password requestor

try in your apache conf to eneble /server-info and /server-status, and set
allow from to your ip range, here i have 

allow from 127.0.0.0/8 192.168.1.0/24 80.199.163.60/32

replace the last with your own ip address else i can see the page from here :)

then you can see why apache is doing this by looking at

http://localhost/server-info/
http://localhost/server-status/

maybe just your dns missing a cname ?

*.skynetbbs.org cname skynetbbs.org

if you are unsure try 

dig www.skynetbbs.org

is there a cname ?

is www.skynetbbs.org setup in your apache to point to the same dir as skynetbbs.org ?

in apache this is done with serveralias token :)
