I hate the sound, but for smaller hands, there are songflutes. They finger 
just like the recorder and have a similar (but not as nice) sound to the 
recorder.
Music stores will sell recorders for about $6. I get mine for about $3 
through a music school supplier. I'll see if they have a rule that they have 
to sell to schools or teachers; if not, I'll post the address here.

Not here. Summer just started three weeks ago. We won't start til almost
