On 05-27-10, BOB ACKLEY said to ROSS CASSELL: EC>> or c) his belief that having an extra switch to trigger the blowout EC>> protector would do any good when the hydraulics on the blowout EC>> protector failed. RC> Did you see his suggestionthat they merely pipe liquid nitrogen down RC> there to create a "ice plug"? BA>I suppose that's possible... BA>However, I've no idea how much it would cost to run a *heavily insulated* BA>pipe large enough to move the required amount of liquified nitrogen in the BA>time required to do it, from the surface down to the problem, and I don't BA>know how much it would cost to fill that pipe with liquid nitrogen (before BA>you can pump the stuff onto the problem). I suspect neither is chump BA>change. Then, of course, there's the continuing problem of keeping that BA>ice plug frozen... I wonder why they don't lower a large, bell-shaped structure to the leak, and channel the spewing oil up to the surface and into a waiting tanker? Instead of letting it just spread all over as it comes out down there, and instead of trying to `plug' it, why not `channel' its direction of flow, and make that channeling of direction the surface where it can be loaded up? My biggest wonder is that, they had the technology and expertise to `locate' a spot to drill that deep, had the technology to get the drill bits down there and do the drilling........but had no successful plan to fall back on in the event that something went wrong. My thought is the technology hasn't developed far enough safety-wise for anyone, anywhere in the world, to be drilling that deep. --- *Durango b301 #PE** Origin: Doc's Place BBS Fido Since 1991 docsplace.tzo.com (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 3/0 633/267 640/954 712/0 313 550 848 @PATH: 123/140 500 261/38 712/848 633/267 |
