I am running Maximus for OS/2 with BinkleyTerm 2.60 to OS/2 and Watergate
0.92 for DOS (I'll convert to the OS/2 version one day).
I would like to use Watergate to distribute a couple of echoes as internet
mailing lists. It seems easy to to do this with Watergate, and it creates
UUCP files which can be sent by programs like uucico.
I would also like to have e-mail available on my BBS.
There is a problem, however, in that I cannot find anyone who is prepared to
offer a uucp connection. All the ISPs say that they can only offer a PPP
connection.
I have been told that I would have to send SMTP packets to the ISP, and
collect POP3 packets for the return mail, but I'm not a fundi on this, so I'm
not sure exactly what is entailed.
But in order to at least try it out, I would like to know if there is any
software that will call an ISP using PPP, and send an SMTP packet and receive
a POP3 packet?
And if there is, will that software work with OS/2?
Can I set up an event in BinkleyTerm that would call such software, and get
it to call the ISP and make a PPP connection.
I've been told that there is a DOS program called KA9Q that might do this -
has anyone used it to do this successfully under OS/2?
Is anyone else calling ISP using PPP with OS/2 - if so what software do you
use, and how do you set it up?
Keep well,
Steve Hayes
