The family court getstapo rarely suspects a father of actually knowing what he's doing, and the results, as we see here, can be devastating. It turns out this father actually did know what he was doing. He was "Smacking them about for behaving like thugs" because they were, indeed, behaving like thugs. If he'd been left to the work of raising his kids, he may have turned them into something other than thugs. Clearly the mother couldn't do it, or didn't, and most government case workers aren't fit to make microwave pizza. No one likes to see a kid get smacked, but with the really hard cases, sometimes that's all that's left, and even then it doesn't have to be constant. After a few trips to the woodshed, a kid will typically see where continued rebelliousness leads, and he'll be more likely to listen to his Dad, or even his Mom, before things get there. In some kids, "time-outs," confinement to the room, or a confiscated bicycle may work. With others, there must be a fist behind the glove. This father knew it. The judge didn't. If you talked to a number of highly successful men over a certain age, most would tell you that Dad didn't tolerate a lot of bullshit. Fathers once were able to discipline their kids as needed, and we got a generation of productive men. Then family courts stepped in, and we got a lot of metrosexual waifs. --- UseNet To RIME Gateway {at} 2/14/05 10:09:18 PM ---* Origin: MoonDog BBS, Brooklyn,NY, 718 692-2498, 1:278/230 (1:278/230) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 278/230 10/345 106/1 2000 633/267 |
