Replying to a message of Earl Croasmun to Ross Sauer: EC> On 12/5/2010 9:35 PM, Ross Sauer wrote to Jeff Binkley: EC> ~> I do know that from 2003-2007 the Bush tax did *NOT* help the EC> economy, ~> and starting with the housing buuble popping, everything EC> went downhill. EC> Do you also "know" that the 2009 stimulus did not help the economy? EC> The post-hoc evidence is the same. I didn't notice any visible effect. That $300 check didn't help me much at all. In passing I note that gasoline is up a nickel a gallon (to $2.74) from five days ago and that heating oil is up a quarter a gallon (to $2.82) from last Febrarry (amd up a dpollar from the winter of 2008-9).. But of course there's been no inflation since Bush minor left office. No inflation. Rice is up a quarter for a 2 lb bag, oatmeal is up 40 cents for a 42 oz box, dog food is up $5.50 for a 40 lb bag, vinegar is up 30 cents/gallon. I guess the good news is that soda pop has held steady at $1.69 - for a bottle that costs maybe 35 cents to produce, fill, and put in the retail cooler. Newspaers seem steady at 75 cents (they used to cost a dime - 'course that bottle of pop used to cost a dime, too ), but they're gettin a LOT thinner; the want ads section of the daily Omaha fishwrapper is all of two, sometimes two and a half pages now, it usedtawas five times that size. --- FleetStreet 1.19+* Origin: Bob's Boneyard, Emerson, Iowa (1:300/3) SEEN-BY: 3/0 633/267 640/954 712/0 313 620 848 @PATH: 300/3 116/901 3634/12 123/500 261/38 712/848 633/267 |
