subject: OS/2 Connect/NT Server

Hi Rick,
RD> Does anyone have experience connecting OS/2 Warp Connect to an MS NT
 RD> Server?
Yes, I have a few Warp Connect machines talking to resources on an NT Server
(using NETBIOS over TCP/IP between 2 LANS connected via routers), all done
via the Work Place Shell. I can honestly say that I have never seen anything
quite like your problem though.
RD> I can access mine through DOS and OS/2 windows
RD> but the Workplace Shell will only acknowledge the
RD> existence of the resources but will not access them,
I take this to mean that your connectivity does in fact work when constructed
and/or used from the command line, but not from a WPS object? If so, then it
sure is wierd in my experience. Once you have some connections established,
does "Connecting and Sharing" display anything in the connections panel?
RD> i.e. no files appear when you open a folder on the
RD> server and no printing occurs through PM apps even
RD> though it indicates it is being done. In a window,
RD> directories of the server are available and printing
 RD> does function.
It almost sounds like the links between the WPS and the Networked objects
have been broken or damaged. I would start looking for some common object
corruption or configuration setup that has broken.
I remember when an OS/2 2.0 machine I worked on had an unusual desktop icon
for Folders and objects that had missing links to those objects (sort of like
a broken Z), but that was nothing to do with Networking...
RD> If I can't make this work I have to succumb to our Win-
RD> Nazi System Administrator and use Win95 ("gag").
I know how you feel.......;-( I fought that scenario a few months back and
had considerable hassles sorting things out when they moved a 95 Server and
changed its name/configuration without telling anyone the details, but
eventually I resolved the difficulties and we are still using OS/2. Sorry I
can't suggest more other than perhaps a re-install of OS/2 Networking to fix
whatever is broken.
Good luck..............pk.
