 .. which is very close to the unix-based assembler that the original Z80
compiler was initially hosted on at QUT in about 1981 :-) I think I still
have serial no. 4 or some such on 8" floppy ..

I've since used the 6809, 8051 and 8086 compilers of the same family and
they all have the same (or similar) syntax. The 8086 compiler still isn't
up to the (rather nice) optimisations that Microsoft's compiler does (nor
are any of the Borland flavours but that's a potentially
"religious" matter :-))
