I don't endorse it either.  Many cop cars are now equipped with vcr's
in the trunk and a camera mounted on the mirror or somewhere with a
nice forward view.  They pick the conversation the cop has with you
as well.  They were first installed, I believe, as an oversight
measure to keep cops honest and to provide evidence to prove or
refute citizen complaints about officer comportment.  Of course, they
work just as well in showing driver comportment.
