Some feminists might like to be like men. I certainly don't, not in some ways anyway. I want to be able to claim stereotypically "masculine" attributes like courage and strength, but define them within my femininity. Just as I applaud my husband's efforts to reclaim the stereotypically "feminine" attributes of nurturing and communicating. The way he parents our daughters is a delight to see, and a constant amazement to me. Where did he learn it? Not from his father, and I'm not bashing his father, because he was a wonderful father according to the standards of his generation, and worked two jobs to provide for his family, and is quite proud of that - and justifiably so. Anyway. I don't want to be a man. Far from it. I just don't want to be seen as less than a man because I'm a woman, that's all. Those of you who think women are lesser creatures than men can kiss my ass as far as I'm concerned. The rest of you, the sensible, reasonable, strong ones - you're the ones I want to talk to. --- UseNet To RIME Gateway {at} 2/15/05 9:23:55 PM ---* Origin: MoonDog BBS, Brooklyn,NY, 718 692-2498, 1:278/230 (1:278/230) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 278/230 10/345 106/1 2000 633/267 |
