I think this is where "chosen ignorance" comes in for many people.  If
there is evidence, or proof, that a held belief is wrong, that evidence,
or proof, will be ignored by those who's previously held beliefs are of
the utmost importance.  For example: Andy-boy has the belief that he is
the most brilliant thinker the world has known, and that those who
disagree with him are stupid, or NAZIs, or liberals (more on liberals
later), etc.  This belief of himself is the most important belief he
has, there exists tons of evidence that proves that this belief is not
reality, therefore he _chooses_ to be ignorant of the reality of
himself.  Imagine a hard core christian fundimentalist finding proof
that god does not exist (I am not saying that there is such evidence,
just that this is hypothetical).  How would such a person react?

It is true, IMO.  I think that anyone can think intelligently simply by
not travelling the road of "chosen ignorance", self conceit, and many of
those other negative paths people like Andy-boy choose to follow.
Now, liberals.  The thing that Andy-boy refuses to acknowledge is the
fact that there are _MANY_ different kinds of "liberals".  I don't
really know what the American, or Australian liberals are like, but I do
know that Canadian liberals are far different then American liberals.
Me, I am a conservative... always have been and always will be as far as I
know.  Now, andy-boy has called me a liberal before, but he still has no
idea what a Canadian liberal is and has no idea that I am actually a
conservative.  But, do you think that this fact (that I am a
conservative) will change his belief that I am a liberal?
NAZI:
Here is something, my grandparents fought NAZI idealism back in WWII.
My mother and father condemned NAZI idealism and still do.  I myself
condemn NAZI idealism.  So, one can safely say that Richard Meic is not
a NAZI.  Yet do you think that these simple facts would change
andy-boy's belief that I am a NAZI?
Now andy-boy is a "red blooded" American like all other Americans, he
views himself as the ALL AMERICAN SAVIOR.  We all read his racial views
on blacks, and American puritanism, does this not hint that andy-boy is
the real NAZI here?   Why do I picture andy-boy with a shaven head,
wearing ripped leather, bashing the brains out of black people?
