Heh.  I was stationed there in 1963-64, spent a week or so there in 1971 trying
to get my orders straightened out (while I'd been *stationed* on Okinawa,
my parent unit
and servicing personnel office was the 6970th Support Group at Fort Meade,
and they issued
the orders).  After 13 amendments to them, the orders read the way they'd
originally been written .

Fort Meade used to be the headquarters for the Army's 11th Cavalry.  In 1964 that
division rotated from Germany back to Fort Meade - and six or seven months later
was shipped to Saigon.  So much for several years of stateside duty...

They used to have at least one functional WW II vintage M-4 Sherman on display
there.
