Not your call.  "What they deserve" is typically left up to criminal
courts, if they commit a crime.  Most civilized societies also consider
that "what they deserve" is a _single_, _fair_ trial, and not to be
tried over and over until the Crown gets what it wants.

your call.  Don't you hate that?)  The people who decide how best to
help children are  their parents.  (Note use of the plural.)
Not you, not waddling lesbian bureaucrats in London.  Parents.

One can say that it is in kids' best interests to live in a free
society, because they eventually become adults.  Double jeaopardy
doesn't happen in free societies.  If you get acquitted, or convicted
and sentenced, that's it.  They can't come back later and ding you
again.

The public intends multiple jeaopardy?  The public wants kangaroo
