This is what I use in my msged.cmd file (.bat for DOS)
if errorlevel=19 goto 19
if errorlevel=18 goto 18
if errorlevel=17 goto 17
if errorlevel=16 goto end ;(this is for local mail, no need to call squish)
If errorlevel=2 goto 2
IF ERRORLEVEL=1 goto 1
I don't use UUUCP or newsgroups so I don't set the traps up for it.
