MC>While this may seem imminently reasonable to IBM support folk, it is
MC>a patently absurd position for a OS challenger in a dominated market.
MC>A small number of people at IBM could take responsibility to poll
MC>the system and video chipset vendors and collect driver files on
MC>IBM's BBS. Frankly, I suspect that the redirecting the cost of 2-3
MC>'nun' and 'ballerina' commercials could fund a lot of this sort of
MC>effort.
I've found exactly the same problems with Windows 95 and Windows NT.
Lack of good/proper drivers is NOT an IBM nor OS/2 problem. Your
chipset works great under Win 3.1x simply because the system didn't
change hardly at all over a four year period.
MC>[I listened to a former IBM exec speak in a technology symposium back
MC>in 1992: He pointed out back then (not sure about today), that if IBM
MC>sold a full list price license for every PC Ever Made which was
MC>capable of running it, IBM would still lose money on OS/2.] IBM
Please make up your mind here. In the above paragraph you report that
IBM has invested an obscene amount of money in OS/2, yet you later
stated:
MC>investment in their product) on an OS/2 version of TSE Pro. After
MC>all, if IBM isn't willing to invest what it takes to make OS/2 a
MC>market contender, why should a software developer? Food for thought.
Overall though, I agree with you. IBM has an excellent product in OS/2.
I had very minor problems in version 2.1, NO problems with 3.0 (Warp,
Warp Connect, etc.). I too love QEdit, having used the unregistered
shareware version for years. Yes I DID buy it from a local store, but
never called Semware to get the updated (2.15 I think version).
From what I've heard of TSE, I doubt that I really need it. The junior
version seems to have everything I need and that's lucky for me since
that's the only one that has an OS/2 version. I'll have to get it one
of these days.
However, My favorite OS's are in order: OS/2, Linux, Windows 95 and
Windows NT. My DOS QEdit is working for me as it'll run easily in 3 of
the 4 systems. But I want ALL FOUR!
