RW>> Many children turnout worse for having that environment forced upon them.
RW>> When they're let loose of that, they turn to worldly things...not all at
RW>> once, but they get there in due course. Many a preacher's son has turned
RW>> out to be some pretty bad characters over the centuries.
JS> Roy, why do you use the word "forced"? It is the legal
JS> responsibility and right of every single parent to instruct
JS> and inculcate their minor children as they see fit, for the
JS> children's own betterment. For many parents in America,
Even on that there are limits. And all too often the ones who
turn out badly were the ones for whom the limits were exceeded.
JS> that means instilling in their children Christian values.
JS> The Bible strongly teaches that children are supposed to
JS> obey and respect their parents. Now, if those same children
JS> later choose to adopt their own set of beliefs, as young
JS> adults, they are perfectly within their legal right to do
JS> so.
Most of the time, by far, if the child is taught well, the child
follows those beliefs as an adult. It's when the child is not
taught well that he goes bad.
JS> But I do take exception to your use of that word "forced".
JS> In that case, it would also be fair to say that atheist
JS> parents force their children to be atheists too. Muslim
JS> parents force their children to be Muslims, and on and on
JS> it goes.
Well... all too often...
JS> The real danger, in my view, is when parents act
JS> irresponsibly, and don't instill any societal values in
JS> their children whatsoever.
Most values are inculcated by example rather than by intent.
JS> I recognize that what you are saying is indeed true, but I
JS> notice a hint of anti-Christian bias in some of your posts.
He would probably say the same about any religion.
