"truly unfortunate". I can almost detect a tear there. :-)
But it need not be terribly unfortunate. There is a possibility
(just a tiny one now) that maybe the woman might have
moral character and decency and care about the man as a fellow
human being and the child's interests as well rather than
her own selfish impulses. I know, who am I kidding? :-)

Apparently, Robert Blake found a 100% solution. An "unfortunate"
one to be sure.

"Sucker" is used to describe someone whose exceptionally
naive or foolish. In order for a man to meet that qualification,
he would need only to regard women as being decent and moral.
What you're failing to consider is that feminism is gradually
digging a hole that it can't crawl out of later. In the
beginning, feminism tried to appear egalitarian by
claiming that liberated women would act more decently
and strongly given the opportunity.
There's implications to new technology being created to fulfill
a need. When you buy flood insurance, you're acknowledging that
you have a risk of flood. People in the desert buy fire insurance
to acknowledge that the weather is dry.
Women bought birth control pills because they
acknowledged that men couldn't be relied upon to provide
them with contraception. This wasn't necessarily
too bad since men didn't have a lot of choices so it
didn't reflect upon his character.
When men take such a pill, he's acknowledging that women
cannot be trusted to use the wide array of products available
to them. He's saying he's a "sucker" if he believes her
reassurances that she doesn't want to have kids out
of wedlock.
Now that's a bit cynical, certainly, because at the time
the man also can consider that many women may not want
to use such birth control and he may also want to do his
share. But the legal nature that drives him to this
situation, to avoid being a sucker, will surely imprint
upon him in the future.
Many women who desire to have children will then need to prove
their worthiness to men. The days of women being in
the power seat of relationships is quickly drawing to a close
even without a male BC pill. It's going to be fun!
