subject: I TOLD YOU SO

With apologies to our esteemed moderator, I can't resist starting out
with an off-topic personal comment: Well, my dear Terri, when you get
a certain something by regular bulk mail instead of first class snail
mail, don't say I didn't tell you that was going to happen because I
did so several times in the past few weeks that I've been waiting
for you to return my back-up tape that you ended up not needing for
the experiment to see if a Colorado can read a Conner-generated
backup.
Now to get on-topic. I read your recent post about using display
fonts to design obedience trial catalog ads and then forgetting you
had used them months later when you were deleting fonts and adding
others to your desktop so that the next time you needed to work with
those ads you found that GEOS had substituted the system font for the
deleted ones. One way to keep up with what you used is to open a
text document and list the advertiser and the fonts used for that
ad and the date last used. Then you can just check that list
against your fonts directory before you start the next catalog and
bring back the fonts you don't have in it. I'm sure this idea is
too simple for a tekkie like you, but it is what I would do if I
was constantly changing my font directory as you do. But, despite
having 1,200 of your Geofonts from the old collection, I am still
using the ones I started with plus about 20 more that I chose last
year. I've never deleted anything yet to make room for new ones
on the desktop because I only have 35 up and will go to 60 before I
decide to eliminate those that I rarely use. When that day comes,
though, I will go through all of my canine newspaper's current and
expired ads that I think might someday be renewed and list their
fonts in a GeoWrite document before I delete anything from the fonts
directory. Also, to save the time of having to locate them on the
backup tape and restore them to the hard drive if I need them again,
instead of deleting them, I will simply move them to a storage folder
on my D drive named "old fonts" where it will be easy to grab them
and put them back on the fonts menu.
                                                Anne Page
