It was founded by religious people, including a number of Christians, but
part of the motivation of many to come across the ocean was to escape
religious persecution including persecution by Christians.  They created a
government that was forbidden to establish any religion, thus a secular
government.

The Supreme Court building actually depicts nine historic lawgivers,
representing the traditions that influenced our legal system.  None are
literally Christian, although Moses and Solomon are part of a pre-Christian
tradition that you may feel akin to.  Menes and Hammurabi, not so much. 
And Confucius, not even close.

But in any event that does not change the fact that the legal system is a
secular one that establishes no particular religion.  It is not like South
Africa, which once tried to invalidate all non-Christian marriages.
