Note that for the last several hundred years of its existence, the Roman Empire
was Christian, as was the Byzantine Empire - and FTM Hitler's Germany.  All
Christian nations, and that factoid didn't seem to help.  All eventually
collapsed as,
to a lesser extent, did the British Empire after WW II.
