subject: New Toy

I got a new toy.

It is a fun toy.

It is a good working toy, too.

Nice toy.

I was hemming and hawing between getting a new desktop computer or a
laptop. I had pretty much desided on a desktop. But then Tiger Direct,
whose mailing list I am willingly on, sent me a notice that they had IBM
Thinkpads (factory reconditioned ones) for $650. That's with Pentium III
700 megaHz and 12 GB hard drive and all sorts of nice things what my
present computer just doesn't have, poor thing.

Well I couldn't resist. So I bought it. It is nice. I have always liked
the Thinkpads, anyway, one reason being they don't have the stupid
touchpads that most laptops have and which I hate because I'm so unhandy
with them. Keys had one of those touchpads on his computer years ago,
before I had one of my own and had to use his. I hated that touchpad. I
like the little "eraser" (looks like a pencil eraser) that the IBM
Thinkpad has for its mouse.

I'm sending this from my old computer, because it's going to take me a
while to get all the files off of it, and I'm not connecting my Thinkpad to
the Internet until I have a chance to buy the latest Norton System Works,
and install my firewall and all that.

And I can even play my games on my new computer, too, but it's also
terrific for my genealogy work. That's why I was thinking about a laptop,
really -- the genealogy. Good to take to libraries and courthouses and
all, for transcribing documents. Can't do that by hand anymore, to any
great extent, because poor hand starts hurting.

But I like my new toy.

Veloci--IBM, you BM, we all BM--raptor
