| subject: | BlueWave in Linux/DOSBOX |
On or about: 04-10-08 23:32, Dale Shipp did engage All regarding, but not limited to: BlueWave in Linux/DOSBOX DS> I have a new little computer for travel (Asus EeePC) which has a DS> version of Linux on it (Xandros). I am trying to get BlueWave to DS> work there using a DOS emulator called DOSBOX, and am almost DS> successful. There is one problem that perplexes me -- and folks on DS> the DOSBOX forum. DS> If I open a QWK packet, read messages, and change the marks on those DS> messages, the changes get recorded in a file called OWL.XTI (QWK DS> packet is OWL.QWK -- and it is unpacked into a WORK directory). DS> When BlueWave finishes, it is supposed to update that file. When I DS> run BlueWave on my XP machine in a NTVDM (virtual Dos) window -- DS> that works the way it should. However, when I run Bluewave using DS> DOSBOX what happens is that when Bluewave places the call to pkzip, DS> the OWL.XTI file has disappeared. This happens both on the linux DS> machine and in DOSBOX on the XP machine. I have confirmed this DS> using a batch which does a DIR on the WORK directory. The other DS> files are there, but the OWL.XTI file is gone. Shesh... Permissions aren't the issue. DS> In this case, the call to pkzip has the parameters of OWL.QWK (with DS> full path to where the file is) and WORK\OWL.XTI (again with full DS> path to that file) -- but a DIR on WORK confirms the XTI file is DS> gone. DS> If I have deleted some messages, then the call by BlueWave to pkzip DS> has parameters of OWL.QWK (full path) and WORK\*.* (also full DS> path). In that case, the OWL.XTI file is still in the WORK directory, DS> along with all the other files that get packed up into the OWL.QWK. What happens if you leave the files unzipped in bw/work, after making OWL.REP? IOW, does BW blow out an existing OWL.REP? (I'm just trying to think outside the box. I suspect there will be issues running this way.) Even *with* a persistent file, it'll likely get toasted. Did you see it created at all, without deleting a message? If you delete one message, it then saves the markers for the rest of the packet, but not for the messages before the delete? DS> Does anyone have any ideas? Any experience? All I can do, is post some dumb questions. How about another flavour of Linux? (Not likely to fix it, with XP *and* Xandros behaving the same...) Have others repeated the problem? DS> I have tried using another emulator called DOSEMU -- but it does not DS> allow me to send CTRL- or ALT- keystrokes to Bluewave. Having no idea how DOSEMU, or WINE works... How about using a 104-key keyboard map? All those options for special keys when setting up X didn't give you any success with the other emulators?
