 FDR's failure was not the New Deal, but in going conservative in
 the middle of the depression, and backing off from the New Deal.

 The New Deal was working, and FDR was persuaded to cut it back
 because it might cause inflation, with the end result much of
 the gains were lost. Going from 25% unemployment to 15% in a
 couple years was a pretty good improvement. However, it was not
 enough and he should not have kept things going more to bring it
 up further before cutting back.
