The stated policy of HCI WAS to remove all guns from private hands.
The current policy seems oriented towards attaining this goal one
small step at a time. They know that they can't get it all at once.
Any non-mainstream group has to express moderate views to the public
in order to gain new members from the public.
If you check out a Church of Scientology webpage, they won't tell
you that Christ was a fraud, that the souls of 10 million murdered
space aliens live in your head, etc, etc. Does this mean the Co$ is
reasonable? No, it just means that you have to be a believer before
you are ready to accept the really wacko stuff. They might even
lie to you and tell you that Scientology is compatible with
Christianity, Islam, and all other established religions.
One other point: The people who run HCI for a living are not about
to quit their jobs and dissolve the corporation if the goals expressed
on the website are realized. They'll just come up with new reasons for
their continued employment. Ask any bureaucrat if the job that feeds
his family should be eliminated, and he'll come up with new reasons
to justify his existence.
Mitch.
