You raise two interesting points.   First, what "seems" to you
as usual, is probably wrong.

I remember a History channel documentary of legal brothels
in Nevada a hundred years ago and it mentioned that most
women left the profession after a period of time oftentimes
marrying one of their clients!

After all, sooner or later these women are too old for the
profession and they look to settle down (much like other
career women :-)  One prostitute said that men find prostitutes
attractive mates because they have little incentive to
sleep around on him.

About male hookers: You raise a very interesting (true) point
because while men, even very attractive men, are willing to pay
for attractive women's company there is little market
for such a service for women.  This means that women
don't have similarly strong sexual desires for physically
attractive men or even if they do, they can't act upon
them effectively.

A colleague of mine is a bodybuilder and has had women
drooling over him but despite him being the "A-Dog" as
he's nicknamed, he really hasn't gotten a lot of perks
for his looks.  He did once ask a stewardess if he could
get a small bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream and she gave
him the whole bag. :-)  Another guy I know also
had a stewardess give him drinks at "no charge".
Another guy managed to wrangle out free business class
upgrades (bastards! :-)  Nice perks, sure, but
hardly anything they can live on.

These men weren't impressed either.  My colleague
slept with the woman and later when she proposed marriage
to him thinking these drinks had bought him and he said
no, she got all upset.  The other poor woman asked
the guy for his telephone number and he gave her a fake
number.  (His sister was disgusted :-)

Which gender is better off?  It depends upon how you look
at it: If someone values satisfying their sexual urges
and desires then men are better off.  If someone wants
to work in the sex industry or become a housewife, then
women (at least a certain segment of women) are better off.

This ties into another thread: oral contraceptives becoming
available for men.  For men, the idea of being able
to have lots of casual sex without procreative
complications is of infinitely more value to them than
it would be to most women.
