My parakeets ate a seed diet supplemented with fruit and green veggies.
Three of them lived to be 14 years of age (not all at the same time). Birds
eat seed in the wild so it's a fair assumption it's a natural diet. They
also had calcium via cuttlebones. I'd try introducing some nice crisp wet
greens (don't leave them after they've wilted) and see if you can tempt
them. Kale and leafy greens like that. Mine loved celery leaves which
don't have a lot of nutrients but got them interested in greens. After
that, slices of apples (nice and wet and fresh) and perhaps seedless grapes
which they find fun to play with as well as eat. Just for starters.
