Oops, sorry. V13 was the AVC amp, not audio. The diodes in
the 12AV6 weren't used.

Not quite... The two tubes dropped from the "early" R-4A
were V6, the 6GX6 Product Detector, and V13, the AM detector
and first audio amp. The VR tube stayed on until the second
version of the R-4B.
