The only point I was making (here, and in MEMORIES) was that there are a
number of people here, even when they are invisible...  Most of us are
lurking, still mostly in that genteel mode we learned back when almost
all the echoes were bustling places, to speak only when spoken to or
when we had something vital to offer...  :)

My first really viable BBS for messaging that I connected with also had
the BW Door and pushed the reader...  :)   It also had, as one of its
very active users, a kid that was so into BW that he would get the
latest and greatest BW stuff as soon as it came out, and then u/l it to
this board...

True.  I was very fortunate that our area had a number of more
responsible sysops as well, with well-run & well-maintained boards...
and that I was directed to a couple of them from the very beginning.  I
got into it as another avenue for pursuing my genealogy interests...

Indeed.  We had more than just the one, but now most have also fallen...
even the most dedicated sysop ends up getting burned out, and/or has
Real Life issues...   Occasionally, it's so much in the blood, though,
that a board resurrects...  like this one I'm posting from now...  It
just happens to be the one where I first was introduced to BW, too.  

And now we have telnet, mostly instead of dial-up (except in a few cases
that also have dialup)... and we have a wider range to find bbses to
call into... if far fewer...
