One has to be inclined to being mean-spirited first of all, for that to make a difference (e.g., at a wedding shower hosted by mother and sister of the bride). I've done my damnedest to breed that out of my line, having been subjected to too g--d--- much of it when I was a child, and determined I wasn't going to pass along the infection. I have no patience with mean-spiritedness. Besides, there are too many fun things to do. The activities Elizabeth and I have planned are such things as making net-and-ribbon corsages and having each one hold a very small kitchen gadget of this or that arcane usage. Marti will have to identify and explain the use of each, with no coaching. There are some that I didn't know what they were (Elizabeth bought 'em). And then there are the sock puppets.
