AP>If I never applied the 2.01 patch and am still using my very stable
AP>copy of Ensemble 2.0, will I have to go through the installation of
AP>the 2.01 patch in order to apply a "New Deal" upgrade when it becomes
AP>available or will I be able to install it on top of my 2.0 version?
As far as anyone knows, there won't be a patch, as (almost) everything
new is already available. The changes include a few bug fixes to
libraries (which have been readily available for some time), Book Reader
will be included, the splash screen will change, and all the apps will
be called NewXXX instead of GeoXXX. The only changes that you can't get
already are it runs on GEOS 2.1 (which offers nothing new to the
desktop) and GeoManager (I mean NewManager) now wraps long file
names instead of putting "..." at the end. It'll be $99 - not worth it
for you.
But I strongly suggest that you get the 2.01 upgrade, as most 3rd party
apps need it, and with RenoComm's comm support pretty much done (the
work now is on protocols and terminal emulation), and me getting an SDK
an writing a QWK reader and a million more programs, it'd be smart to
upgrade.
I know they are updating GeoPublish to 2.1. I will try getting it and
add to it the files it doesn't have from my 2.01 install and see what
happens. It should give me a 2.1 kernel with my 2.01 apps working just
fine. If it works, I'll tell everyone how to upgrade for free. If not,
we shouldn't be at a loss, as there isn't an SDK 2.1 desktop
development.
