  It would probably be a pure-gaming console, not the "do-everything" type 
that the CDi tried to be.  That was its failure; in attempting to do it all, 
it became master of none.  There was always a better choice in a given area; 
if you were a gamer, you chose a Nintendo or Sega console (no Sony for most 
of the CDi's lifespan); if you were interested in reference material and 
family entertainment, you chose a PC.  Heck, if you were a gamer, you might 
have chosen the PC as well.  :-)

  Well, not ALWAYS.  FF7 and a few other games use MIDI.  But they are 
well-known for getting high-quality music into games.  Of those, Wipeout XL 
is the most recognizable, since it had major electronica groups on one CD.  
The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk AND Prodigy on one CD?  That's too much!
