I see The "Yellow Monsters" are getting mixed reviews. I was on a
call the other night with another crew, off-loading a patient, and for
some reason, the thing's safety bar at the top didn't catch properly.
As a result, the thing "Dropped", delivering a jolt to the patient.
Fortunatley, nothing came of it. I liked having more control over the
operation of the Fernos. You were physically lifting the thing, but at
least you could see what you were doing, and where the wheels were.
The training video showed in our dept. demonstrated the hinged
tailgate on the ambulance was an integral part of the stryker system.
This feature was omitted on our last new trucks. as a result, the wheels
strike the tailgate when offloading, or loading in a patient, especially
when you're backed up to a curb, or elevated platform.
AND another thing, while I'm in a bitchy mood, Is it my imagination,
or does the "yellow Monster" have a shorter frame? Whenever we have a
patient of even moderate height, seated up in a full fowlers position,
their feet poke out off the end of the stretcher. AS you lift the thing
up, their shoes are right in your face. I've seen co-workers with shoe
prints on the chests of the uniform shirts.
Yet another "advancement" for EMS.
Thanks again for the replies. Im going to grumble for a while now, and
try to think of something else to complain about. ;-)
