The other posters on this subject are absolutely correct.
The only suitable birds for your family would be:
1) Wild birds that you attract with a bird feeder (recommended)
2) Birds that are stuffed and/or mounted.
3) Alfred Hitchcock's movie.
Large birds can easily remove body parts from small children. Birds and
small children is a bad, bad idea.
Family notwithstanding, you need to think about the bird's welfare.
There are more birds in rescue shelters because people think that birds are
ornaments and when they find out that the birds aren't oranaments, they get
rid of them. Many of these unwanted birds wind up being destroyed. Many
birds suffer greatly at the hands of people who don't know what they are
doing and/or getting into. No, birds are NOT for you. Get a puppy.
