 I have observed some really weird behavior with the lastread
 pointer in ver4.20 beta 3, but I don't that exact thing happening.
 Due to the fact that many people are having problems with the
 lastread pointer and the outcome is often different for different
 people, I would say the behavior could best be described as
 undefined ( unwieldy, unreasonable, definitely undesirable ;-) ).
