subject: Bad Deal.....

JC> Did anyone buy anything from a message posted here on or about
JC> December 10, which was posted by Dave Weston (AKA Dave West, Dave
JC> Nelson) from Cincinnati, Ohio 45276.
JC> I order sveral items and sent check and he replied Email that he
JC> recieved check but that was the last I heard from him. No replies to
JC> Email daily. Here is his ad...
I have done business with him before. He is a truck driver and often times
is hard to reach. If it is the same person I am thinking of, excercise
caution though. I was given a GREAT price on a Seagate 540 meg hard drive.
He informed me that Norton Disk Doctor said it needed low level formatted.
I purchased the drive with the understanding of this. I went to the Seagate
web siet and eventually found what I needed to low-level it. After this, it
was still burping at me constantly. The folx at Seagate informed me that the
drive more than likely had physical damage. To make a long story short. The
drive is unreliable and used as nothing but a backup. I really can't
complain too much cauz the price was low.
BUT, he had another post after this where he listed several more hard drives.
One was a 1.2 Gig, where he made the same claim. Needed low-levelled. I
mailed him asking about a trade up. Say I'd give him my useless drive back
and some extra cash to get a bigger drive. I figured if 10% of that drive
was bad, I still had enough room. Once this message was sent, it seems he
dropped off the face of the planet.
I have mixed emotions about dealing with this guy. number one, he gives you
great prices and is prompt and courteous about his dealings. But, the
merchandise he rids himself of is not what he says. I learned a valuable
lesson from this. NEVER buy something such as a hard drive from anyone
unless it comes with a Norton report or something stating no errors. Like I
said, it was a pleasure doing business with the guy and he gave me a great
deal. I kinda think he knew the drive had major problems and misinformed me
to that extent.
If it has only been a couple days, be patient. Like I said, he is on the
road a lot. If it has been quite a while, I'd worry. Also, hope you didn't
buy any hard drives! :)
Good Luck!
