Under warranty, it was no questions asked. By now, the VLB controllers are
all considered obsolete by Adaptec, so my guess is that it is a matter of how
loudly you can gripe. I haven't actually tried to exchange a 2842VL since
1995. I've seen new Adaptec VLB controllers selling on the legitimate
surplus market in the $30 range; see

the AHA-2842A but without floppy support) for $29.
