    My mom had a "big green parrot" when she was growing up, had a
HUGE vocabulary and was quite tame. It died when she was seventeen.
Her mom had taken  the bird in when her own mother died, it had been a
WEDDING present from my mom's  grandfather to her grandmother.  It was
in the family for 65 years.  It's entire diet was sunflower seeds and
potatoes.
