Let me jump into the thread here, and let me be blunt ...

we *know* it can't work like that.

The 404 error is 100% certainly the server saying "I haven't got the
file you asked for". It's possible you do have a faulty SD card, but
it's impossible for your SD card (faulty or not) to cause a 404 error.
