I tried netting for my fig tree. I sewed two of 'em together.
Guess I could have used three..... Birds found a good enough 
opening and used it like an airport runway. Hit the opening
every time. I gave up on the nets as too hard to get on and
off the tree. Back to sharing the figs with the birds. At least 
they wait 'till the figs are ripe so we get an equal chance, 
and I have an edge in size.
