Hey Alan!

AI> I've heard of VAX/VMS but never seen it.

Be afraid ... be VERY afraid!

Cutting edge stuff way back when. I kind of miss the nine track tape drives
but probably not. Time has a way of tricking one's mind into calling stuff
like that the "good old days".

AI> an 8088 or maybe it was 8086 I forget.

Like I say above. Back then I used to call those overpriced calculators that
don't fit in your pocket. I waited until the first 386's came out before
purchasing my first home based computer.

AI> That was DOS 3 or something there about.

I am guessing DOS 2-ish. On 5.25" disks? I recall ny first encounter with
Kermit on one of those. It was in a cement bunker on the bald prairie.

AI> also had a modem in it so it wasn't long before I was BBSing and
AI> not long after that I was running my own BBS.

For me it would have been a tad later on a 386 with a 4800 baud internal modem
(16-bit ISA). I was a holdout when it came to home based computing.

Life is good,
Maurice

... Don't cry for me I have vi.
