VAX/VMS?  The first BBS I ever saw was a VAX/VMS based one way back before the
earth's crust cooled.  I don't recall if it was the same one where I first
encountered text messaging but it seems to me that it was, and the messages
were mostly posts about wanting to share gas expenses for a ride to Vancouver
(usually Vancouver), or selling off furntiture due to a move, etc.  Occasional
chatter but not that much of that.  Definetly no ANSI or door games at that
time.  Quite a bit of ASCII art and banner type posts now that I think about
it.  It was many, many years later before I saw a doorgame or offline messaging
or anything along that line.  Offhand I don't think there was even file
downloads.
